Fire outbreak in BP Cité Sic, Douala after mattress factory blast

A huge fire broke out early Saturday morning, April 19, 2025, in the BP Cité Sic neighborhood of Douala following an explosion at a mattress manufacturing factory.

According to reports from Équinoxe TV, the fire that started around 4 am originated from the mattress factory, which also produces other flammable goods. Fueled by these materials, the flames quickly ravaged the facility and extended to nearby homes, forcing them to vacate in other to prevent human casualty. A Protestant Hospital, located close to the factory, was also affected and had to evacuate all patients as a precaution.

Though the fire took long before it was extinguished, the firefighters who arrived promptly at the scene successfully put off the main fire. However, due to the highly flammable nature of the factory’s contents, emergency crews have remain stationed at the site. Officials say the risk of reignition is still present, and they are working to cool off the area completely and secure it to prevent any further outbreaks.

No lives were luckily lost but heavy material loss was present including the factory that was completely razed down. For now the residents of the area count their losses but are equally grateful for life.
